Veteran German producer Johannes Heil’s records date back to the late 90s, on classic techno labels like Heiko Laux’s Kanzleramt. Known and trusted for his powerful and pioneering club tracks, Heil now graces the Figure discography with ‘Lifesigns’. Four heavy burning, crafty tracks for the dancefloor at its peak, but also for hypnotic, deeper moments, ‘Lifesigns’ offers us a variety of moods and energies grafted directly from Heil’s years of experience. Parts 1 + 2 lay the foundations, building with raw percussion and a cyclonic, enveloping aesthetic. Part 1’s classic techno stabs and tense arrangement peak our interest while Part 2 unleashes devastating bass frequencies as layers of freaking synthesis unfold. Parts 3 + 4 explore more urgent yet funky zones – Part 3’s undulating trio of stabs, organs and synth take us on a smooth warehouse-themed trip, Heil’s tough drums and searing hats leading the show. Part 4 owes a lot to hypnotism, for the deeper moments where tension is allowed to be drawn out and time stands still: Classically founded modern techno from one of Germany’s stand out producers.
