2012 was the year that My Favorite Robot Records truly came into its own, taking it’s robotic soundtrack across the globe with label showcase parties, a stream of outstanding singles and some breathtaking artist albums. In its short four year history the label has gone from unknown Toronto newcomer to become one of the most highly respected imprints around. Singles from the likes of Sasse, DeadEcho, Andrew Grant, Tom Demac etc had Djs enthralled in 2012 with heavyweights such as Francois K, Laurent Garnier, Maceo Plex & Seth Troxler getting behind releases. 2012 was also the year that saw MFRR make the move to artist album releases, kicking off proceedings with the latest LP from the wonderful Jori Hulkkonen. Hulkkonen has recorded a string of albums for the likes of F Communication and Turbo but chose My Favorite Robot Records for his latest musical opus, the wonderful Negative Time. The Hulkkonen album was followed up by Fairmont’s outstanding LP ‘Automaton’ which received broad critical acclaim for its fusion of emotive electronica and vocal indie pop. The ‘Best of Year Four’ compilation gives an insight into the amazing music released by My Favorite Robot Records in 2012 and hints at the label’s direction in the year to come.
